Kukulcania hibernalis, or Southern House Spider, is native to the southeastern U.S. Females are large and dark, while males are lighter and more mobile. Unique for their violin-shaped marking and funnel-shaped webs, they are non-aggressive and rarely bite, making them approachable for beginners.
